How To Remove Gel Nails
7 Easy Steps On How To Best Remove Gel Nails.
Never pick/peel the gel off! This will only damage the surface of the natural nail more!
Step 1 – Get the right tools
What you will need:
- 10 pieces of aluminium foil approx. 2 1/2 inch squares.
- 10 cotton balls/cotton pads cut into squares to cover nails.
- Double sided buffer (ideally with a low ‘grit’ of 100).
- Acetone nail polish remover.
- Cuticle oil.
- Cuticle pusher/stick.
Step 2 – Break the seal
Use the buffer to gently remove the top coat from the nail, the more top coat that has been removed the less time needed to soak the nail.
Tip: Be careful not to buff the cuticle or surrounding skin.
Step 3 – Acetone soak
Soak each piece of cotton with the acetone solution and place it on top of the buffed nail. Tightly wrap a piece of foil around the nail to cover the cotton, repeat this step for all buffed nails and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
Tip: For best results do five fingertips at a time, this will be less hassle and easier to manage rather than trying to cover 10 fingertips all at the same time.
Step 4 – Remove the foil and cotton
Next you want to gently remove the foil along with the cotton. Don’t worry if there is still some gel on there as it will be soft enough to go in with the cuticle pusher to gently scrape away the remaining gel.
Tip: If there is still too much resistance repeat the prior step.
Step 5 – Final Buff
Now that your nails are gel-free it is time to restore your nails to there natural state. Use the smoother side of the buffer to gently get rid of any roughness that has been left on the surface of the nail.
Step 6 – Wash hands
Wash your hands to get rid of any dust residue so they are clean for the final step.
Step 7 – Nourish and replenish
Your fingertips will be feeling a little delicate from the acetone so it is extremely important to nourish those nails. Use a cuticle oil that will provide extra hydration to replenish any moisture loss and finish off with a generous squeeze of your favourite hand cream. Voila!
